Clermark Equestrian offers elite training, care
By NICK WALTER

EAST MANATEE — On its elegant surface, the newly furnished Clermark Equestrian looks like it’s all about relaxation.

Melodic music rolls from the sand ring, which is surrounded by trimmed grass and a wall of scenic vegetation in the distance. Riders and guests are treated to shade, satellite television, music, bug spray systems, even those misty air conditioning units you sometimes see on the sideline of a football game.

But this near-$2-million facility on 10 acres, located at 5928 225th St. E., north of State Road 70 and west of State Road 675, is about much more than amenities, ease and delight.

It’s about becoming a champion, for the horse and the equestrian.

The facility, one month since being completed, was developed under the guidance of general manager and head trainer Brock Clermont, a 25-year-old from Toronto. Clermont is an international show jumping professional who holds national titles in the disciplines of hunter and equitation. Canadian Olympians High Graham and John Pearce played an integral part in forming his approach to horses.

Clermont said he’s thrilled to open the facility in what he feels is an ideal area.

“I fell in love with this area,” Clermont said. “It’s the most wonderful place for business for people who want to ride and where horses are taken care of at a high level of quality.”

Consider some of the facilities: a 350-by-350-foot grand prix ring; a 220-by-190-foot drained sand ring with state-of-the-art footing and sport jumping; new open jumper course and hunter jumps; 15 miles of groomed horse trails; 33 total stalls, five groom stalls and six wash stalls.

A unique feature in the lounge is a small television that displays a slideshow of the riders’ latest performances, something that’s both entertaining and ideal for analyzing technique.

“This is my first day here,” said 18-year-old Rachel Powell, of New Port Richey. “It’s very friendly. I’m having a great time.”

Clermont, who deals with children as young as 5, has trained at similar facilities in New York, Toronto and Wellington, Florida. He’s culled the best aspects from all of them to make what he feels is an optimal facility.

“You definitely can’t find places around like this,” Clermont said. “Parents in this area take their kids to private schools, they take care of everything they have, and they want their horses taken care of with the same respect.”

Clermont also plans to use the facility as a place to train for the 2012 London Olympics.

He buys the majority of his horses from Belgium, and trains them until they’re at an elite level before selling them to American clients.

Clermont made the facility spacious and friendly for the horses. It is important in this sport that a horse is a mentally healthy as possible. The spacious stalls and land, coupled with experienced trainers, make for the ultimate conditions in which a horse and rider can become elite.

“I really stress the happiness of the horse,” Clermont said. “A happy horse is a good horse.”

Riders and spectators can choose to attend either of the two days (December 28th and 29th) or alternatively attend both days sessions.  Space is limited, therefore; riders are encouraged to book as soon as possible in order to hold their place for the clinic.

Head trainer and general manager of Clermark Equestrian, Brock Clermont adds, “we are very pleased to have the opportunity to provide area riders and coaches the opportunity to attend one of Don Stewart’s clinics.  Don rarely offers clinics in our area and I’m looking forward having a coach and trainer of his level of expertise share his unique insights and instruction.”

Attendees are invited for a catered lunch on each day of the clinic which is included in the daily session fee of $180.  For more information on the clinic and the sessions that will be offered, call Clermark Equestrian at 941-322-9196 or by email at brock@clermarkequestrian.com

Clermark Equestrian is pleased to congratulate Golden Point Farm and Jennifer Waxman on a highly successful show season during 2008 with Cento du Buisson Z.  Cento was acquired in early 2008 through Clermark Equestrian and has gone on to emerge as one of the finest hunters in North America.

In May, Cento earned three first place finishes in the Large 16-17 Hunter division in Lexington, while being ridden by Jennifer Waxman of Golden Point Farm.  To close out the summer season, Cento went on to once again dominate at the Hampton Classic Horse show in August by taking home another three first place finishes, as well as one third place finish in the Large Junior Hunter (16-17) division.  In the $10,000 Hermes Jr./Ao. Hunter Classic, Cento finished a solid eighth and also went on to win first place in the Junior Hunter Championship, while also capturing the Raynes Trophy.

2008 Hampton Classic Horse Show Results (Cento)

Brock Clermont is happy to see one of Clermark Equestrian’s sales horses achieve such phenomenal results.

“Cento du Buisson Z has definitely lived up to the potential I saw in him when I made the decision to import him from Europe in late 2007.  We are extremely pleased that Golden Point Farm has enjoyed immense success with this remarkable horse throughout the show season and we wish Jennifer continued success in the year ahead.”

“Through our partnerships with top trainers in the industry such as Emily Smith and Keean White, we strive to present only the finest horses to our prospective clients.  When selecting horses such as Cento, Clermark Equestrian evaluates hundreds of horses and selects only the finest as candidates for our intensive training program.  It is our ambition that our current stock will go on to be just as successful as Cento.”

Currently, Clermark Equestrian has a new roster of young horses which are offered for sale through its sales stable in Bradenton, Florida.  For additional information on Clermark Equestrian’s sale horses, visit us at:

Clermark Equestrian is pleased to announce the addition of the Automist fly control system into its state-of-the art Stable.

The Automist fly control systems are automatically operated misting systems that dispense an insect control at preset times and durations throughout the day. These systems effectively control flies, mosquitoes and a host of other pests.

The Automist will provide our boarders’ horses with a degree of comfort and protection greater than simple fly sprays and will aid in combating mosquitoes carrying the potentially deadly West Nile Virus.

Brock Clermont adds, “the Automist system is the newest technology available to combat flies indoors. Clermark Equestrian uses a safe, water solulable solution in order to effectively control the interior environment of our facility and make it more enjoyable for our horses, clients and our guests.”

Clermark Equestrian is pleased to announce the integration of five Port-a-Cool evaporative cooling systems into its state-of-the-art Equestrian Centre. The units were originally designed to offer an environmentally friendly method of cooling large open spaces and have been most recently used in the Middle East to provide cooling to the men and women of the Armed Forces as well as refresh NFL players along the sidelines of professional football games.

Brock Clermont of Clermark Equestrian explains why Port-a-Cool systems were the right choice to bring comfort to Clermark’s horses:

“When building a new Stable from the ground up, we had the unique opportunity to implement the newest technology to differentiate Clermark Equestrian from the other facilities in the Bradenton and Sarasota region. Using Port-a-Cool evaporative air cooling systems was the natural choice for us to bring added comfort to our boarders’ horses while improving their performance in the show ring.”

“Western Florida has dreadfully hot summer conditions and the distribution of our five Port-a-Cool systems throughout our facility effectively lowers peak temperatures, allowing horses at Clermark Equestrian to recover faster from their daily workouts.”

Additionally, the Port-a-Cool units are far gentler on the environment compared to traditional air conditioning systems. Clermark Equestrian’s cooling system uses only a small fraction of electricity, while emitting zero harmful pollutants to the atmosphere.

Clermark Equestrian is proud to introduce this outstanding amenity to our clients and their horses, and we believe this investment in state-of-the-art cooling technology will be well received. To find out more about Port-a-Cool systems and evaporative cooling, check out the video below:
